Niharika Das

Believe in yourself that you can do it”: Niharika Das

In 2014, Niharika Das, a student of Delhi Public School, Guwahati, had made the entire city proud with her stunning performance, not only in Assam CEE (Rank-8), but also in other entrance exams. In an interview with Penfreak, Niharika talks about her achievements and provides an insight into the scenario of the entrance exams.

Q. Congratulations on securing 8th rank in Assam CEE. What were the other exams you appeared for?

Niharika: Thank you! Apart from CEE, I appeared for AIPMT and AIIMS. My AIPMT rank was 1042 and my AIIMS rank was 1034.

Q. Wow! That’s a great achievement. Did you take any coaching?

Niharika: Yeah, after completing my class 10, I joined Aakash Institute, Bhangagarh, for a 2-year Classroom Program. The faculty and the study materials were absolutely brilliant. Not to forget the test series, which helped me to assess myself.

Q. What would be your advice to the candidates appearing for AIPMT?

Niharika: Hardly one month left for AIPMT. So you need to buckle up and start some serious preparations for the coming exam. AIPMT requires methodical training and studying. Your preparation requires precision. The course for AIPMT is as vast as an ocean. So, you need to focus on the important areas of the subjects. Most importantly, you should be thorough with the NCERT books. Also, you should atleast solve last 15 years’ question papers of AIPMT.
With only one month left in hand, I believe following are the most important chapters you need to focus on:

Physics- Mechanics, Optics and Electricity
Chemistry- General Organic Chemistry, Chemical Bonding, Coordination Chemistry, p and d-block elements
Biology- Physiology of Plants and Animals, Genetics, Morphology of Plants.

For Physics, you need to focus more on solving numericals, rather than simply reading the theory. Same applies for Physical Chemistry as well.

Q. What would be your advice to the candidates appearing for Assam CEE?

Niharika: Preparation for both the exams is almost the same. It’s just that the physics paper of CEE is one step ahead of AIPMT. During that 15 days break, which you would get after AIPMT- solve as many MCQs as possible, from the previous years’ question papers. I would advise you to kindly go through the ‘Assam CEE’ book, which is available in the market. Biology and Chemistry papers are quite easy and would hardly require 5 days of preparation.

Q. How would you advise the students to study during the last one month?

Niharika: First and foremost, you should have a positive attitude. Believe in yourself that you can do it. As far as the last month is concerned, don’t just keep on studying throughout the month. Appear for online mock tests and assess yourself. Understand your strengths and work hard on your weaknesses. Divide the last 30 days into two parts- 20 days for preparation and 10 days for absolute revision and solving previous years’ papers. This way, you can utilize your time efficiently.

Work hard and give your best. Best of luck guys!
